Exploring the world with Orboot
I am excited to share a great new product with you guys today! I am always looking for ways to keep learning (and playing) fresh and fun for Abby and Jake so I was more than happy to review the Orboot for you guys. I was gifted the globe for the kids to try but as always all opinions are my own.
The Orboot by Shifu is a Augmented Reality Globe that utilizes an app to allow children to travel around the world from their own home. Now, your probably thinking… “what a great idea”. Well, many others agree because the Shifu Orboot was able to raise almost $80,000 on Kickstarter earlier this year to get the ball rolling. It is now available for purchase on Amazon(click here).
► ORBOOT GLOBE + APP takes the child on an Augmented Reality based journey around the world. Fun. Interactive. Educational.
► THE BOX comes with a 10” globe, passport, stamp, country flag stickers, and a detailed help guide.
► COMPATIBILITY – Orboot app is free on iOS, Kindle and Android. Compatible with – iPad 3 & above, iPad mini 2 & above, iPhone 6 & above; Kindle 8 and above; Android 3GB RAM and above.
► CATEGORIES IN APP – cultures, monuments, inventions, animals, maps and weather for various countries across the globe.
► STEAM Ahead – A perfect toy for the ever-curious kids (ages 4-10) that sparks their imagination and curiosity. It helps build knowledge, linguistic and cognitive skills. Makes for an amazing and unique gift for kids!
How does it work?
Once you receive your Orboot you simply need to download their app. You can take a minute to sign up your email which allows you to sync your progress between multiple devices. It also shows you a little video on how it works.
Next, you simply use your devices camera to scan different areas. The Orboot then lets you choose what to go into more detail on. It even pulls up 3D monuments and animals right there on the globe! The animation is cute and no reading is necessary (although Abby likes to read along). When you choose animals for that region it even lets you guess what it eats and feed it too!
There is so much to explore! And I have to tell you that I find it just as interesting as the kids do! The content is engaging and there are hundreds of animals, monuments, inventions, weather, cultures, cuisines, country flags and maps. The globe is borderless and uncluttered really allowing the focus to be on regions at that top level with the more detailed info worked into the content unlocked with each scan.
Here are some photos and a video compliation of the kids playing with it. Let me know if you have any questions!
