I am always thrilled to contribute to The Spouting Threader by Sprouting Threads (more about them here) and this month I am chatting about how to send the kids back to school in style!  And it is as easy peasy!    Here are 5 tips to keep them feeling fabulous this Fall!

Tip #1

The Backpack – Three words. LET THEM PICK.  Seriously! They are going to rock this in and out of school every single day and we want them to carry it proudly.  Even if the characters make you cringe a little or you think that there is no way that it will last all year.  Let them make that call.  Abby, of course, is star struck by this Rainbow Emoji backpack even though I love her little Matilda Jane one from last year.  Little does she know… it’s getting delivered on Monday!  Poop emojis for everyone!

Tip #2

The Shoes – I am going to piggy back on that last tip.  As much as I love coordinating shoes perfectly to outfits the kids don’t care, their friends don’t care and it is so much extra hassle in the morning.  Let them find their own perfect pair and make sure that they are easy to get on and off.  Abby knew that these were the ones the second she saw them.  Velcro twinkle toes.   And she rocks them proudly! And now she is over my shoulder and saw me pulling the link and now she wants this rainbow pair too.

Tip #3

Bright and Bold – Let the kids express themselves with colors, patterns, stripes and solids!  Mix and match everything and let them help plan outfits.  Throw out the rules and have fun! The trick is to fill their closet with threads that you both love and then you never have to worry about what they are going to come down in.  Abby absolutely loves the Joah Love rainbow tunic that came in her recent Sprouting Threads box.  She can’t wait to wear it to school with her Twinkle Toes!  And I love love love that navy blue and white ToobyDoo one.  It has the cutest zipper up the back too!

Tip #4

Let them “window shop”!  I love letting Abby and Jake go though the catalogs that come in the mail.  Often I give them a pen and tell them to circle their favorites.  It’s fun to go back through and see what speaks to them!  Fashion is always changing.  Let them roll with the trends just like we did when we were kids!  Oh yes I am looking at you bodysuits.  And light up shoes.  And tight rolled jeans.

Tip #5

You are never fully dressed without a smile!  Above all else, send them out the door confident and compassionate.  Because no matter how cute you look, its what’s on the inside that counts!
