So, let’s chat! Now that Abby is in Grade School we have to talk so much more about how she handles herself around others. We have such a responsibility as parents to teach our kids how to carry themselves confidently yet with grace. Bullying is a huge no no but also a term that is sometimes overused or used in the wrong context. These kids are smart. They know deep down what is right and what is wrong. The trick is how to teach them to uphold their values, respect themselves and respect others. Peer pressure is hard. I can’t imagine what it’s going to be like for these kids now that bullies can hide behind social media!
I don’t have the answer other than the age old “Do unto others”. But I have strong memories of my mom telling me very young that I should be nice to everyone. I think it’s true. Maybe in the short term the nice guys may seen to finish last but in the long run and when I look back on life I think the nice guys really win.
