A fresh start…

So you know that feeling when God (or Buddha or the Universe or your Mom) is trying to tell you something over and over again but you just can’t seem to really listen?  That has been me for the last couple of years.  I have felt such an immense weight on my shoulders put there by myself because I knew deep down that I wasn’t being the person or living the life that I wanted to live.   I am setting out to right that wrong…

A little back story.  I started my blog NewDayNewDeals.com on a whim back in 2010 when pregnant with Jake.  The deal boom had just kicked off.  Abby was almost two.  I discovered how fun online shopping was and my knack for finding a good deal and I wanted a place to share that (and my referral links).  The blog took off and that Summer AbbyTrends.com and JakeTrends.com were born to showcase real clothes in real life and aid my readers with more knowledge of the brands that I posted about.

For a few years the blogs have thrived, traffic is booming and it has become a very profitable ‘job’.

But, I have a gut wrenching sense of guilt most days.  Somehow this adventure has taken on a sense of gluttony.  Of excess.  Of time wasted.  I feel guilty for two reasons.

First, my family.  My days start with 200 emails from flash sale sites while kids whine for attention.  Then they are spent chasing kids around to take their picture for their blogs.  They end with me cringing about the piles of stuff I need to sell on ebay as it’s piled in my bedroom.  I am in one word — distracted.  And my constant stress is due to extra work that I am creating for myself.   I need to scale back.  Simplify.  Enjoy my family with a side of shopping.  My adventures with a splash of style.  My life with an extra dash of laughter.

Second, your family.  I don’t want to be the person that distracts you.  I don’t want your husbands to hate me.  And I don’t want your children to unknowingly resent me.  I really struggle with knowing that I am using my influential status to shove deals down your throat all day every day and with such a wasted sense of urgency.  We all love a deal and I still do but I, Sarah,  am so much more than that stuff.  And you are too.

So, here is a fresh start.

Welcome to OurLittleLifeStyle.com.  This is my way of roping it all in.  I want one place where I can share about my shopping (yes, still some sales) but also my own style.  Things I love.  What we do.  Causes that inspire and projects that motivate.  I am scaling back to basics with a more personal lifestyle blog featuring my family in our day to day lives.  I hope that you want to come along with me as I find a way to balance it all.

So, whats the game plan?  Well, I’m not sure.  This is all on an impulse.  The feeling was too strong that something had to change.  I need a creative outlet.  This is where I needed to go.  I hope to eventually have all 4 blogs find a new home here on OurLittleLifeStyle by Summer.  I am leaving them up for a little while and continuing to sparingly update them in the meantime as I see just how and what I want this new blog to become.   I hope it becomes home for all of us.

I didn’t want to just turn the NewDayNewDeals Facebook page into the OurLittleLifeStyle page as I know that many of my deal readers might not care about my Disney Cruise or our new Spring Bobo Choses.  But I know that I have developed great friendships with many of you and would love for you to follow along.

And I hope that you guys listen up and that we can stop the madness.  By realizing that we may just need just little less to realize that we can actually have it all.

So, join me as I share our lives and our style with you.

A true story of love, life, style and smiles and how we balance it all.

  1. Sara, I love this. I have recently unsubscribed from a LOT of flash sale emails – they took up a lot of time and I felt the unneccesary need to buy things we did NOT need. Now opening my email is much less stressful! Good luck 🙂

  2. This is so refreshing! After Jody Sherman’s suicide and then the closing of ecomom.com last year, I noticed that a lot of people were saying, “but what about my voucher??” Somebody is dead. People are out of work. There is loving a good deal and then there is gross excess. Kudos to you!

    1. Thanks Mary! You know… that is exactly the mentality that I am ashamed of helping create! Like the sense of entitlement and the “hunt for codes” and all of that… there is a time and place for sales at the end of seasons and people need to consider the small businesses that they are shopping from too! Not just themselves.

  3. * Cheers to your fresh start and to simplifying life *
Your blogs have been great sources & entertaining, but I really commend you for re-focusing your priority list and also for sharing that part of your life with us. Blessings to you!

PS Notice how I haven’t updated that linked blog in 3 years? 😉

  4. Amen, Sista! I’ve been feeling the same way too and I love how you put a voice to my thoughts. Good luck in your search. Shopping is a form of gluttony and its great to be able to pull back and recalibrate.:)
